Frequently Asked Questions: Application Process

Okay, I'm ready to start service what do I do?
Well, first things first you need to fill out the Night Owl application. Applications are also available on buses. Ask your bus driver if you don't see one. You can also pick up applications at the Travel Center or call 370-5810.

Why can't I just call to get my service started?
Every potential rider needs to fill out an application, so that we know where they live, where they work, what times they work, what days of the week they are requesting service and some other information. Too, it takes about seven to ten days to process an application. Remember, requests are taken on a first come first serve basis and our scheduler needs time to look at the current schedules to see if she can fit another rider in.

What if the scheduler can't fit me in at the time that I apply?
Then your name goes on a waiting list and you'll receive a "yellow card" in the mail that lets you know when we received your application and that you are officially on the waiting list. You may check in with us from time to time about when you might be put on the schedule, but we will call you when we have an opening. From the time you get the first call from us, you'll have 24 hours to respond. If we don't hear from you, then you go back on the waiting list and someone else will be offered that time slot.

Will the waiting list ever get smaller?
Actually, we are able to pull names off the waiting list weekly. We are hoping to add additional vehicles to the service in the spring to accommodate the number of requests we've had.

I called the other day after I received a "blue card." What's a "blue card?"
You'll receive a "blue card" if there is any information missing on your application that prevents us from processing it. The blue card lets you know what type of information we need to complete your application. If you get one of these cards, you are requested to call us at 370-5810 as soon as possible.

I was told that the time I was requesting service was one of the busier times. What does that mean?
Well, it means that a high number of our requests are for service between 10:30 p.m. and 12:00 midnight and then again around 4:00 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. We call this our "peak time" of service. We have many people on our waiting list that have requested peak time service. We don't discourage them from applying we just tell them that we really don't have a sense as to how long it will take before we can offer them a slot on a regular schedule.
